Bardfield Vineyard

Bardfield Vineyard is situated in the centre of the Great Lodge estate; a family owned and run farm and rural enterprise.

The farm has been in the owners’ family for many generations. Steeped in history, Bardfield Lodge, as it was formerly known, was once in the ownership of Anne of Cleves. The magnificent Grade I listed brick and tile barn was believed to be built by her in the mid sixteenth century. In 2013 it will be renovated to accommodate vineyard tours, wine tasting and weddings.

The one hectare vineyard was planted in 1990 on a south facing gentle slope. As the soil and climate are somewhat similar to the Alsace region of France the decision was made to plant the varieties of Bacchus and Reichensteiner grape which are capable of producing very fruity aromatic wines of a consistently high quality.

Bardfield Vineyard was the winner of the 1998 “East Anglian Wine of the Year Award” with the Bardfield Dry 1996 Vintage.

Tours by appointment take place between Easter and the end of September. Sales, all year round, at the vineyard, but it is advisable to phone first ( 01371 811398)
